our story

Craft & Gather is the creation of two restaurant industry veterans, Darrin Sander and Keith Spragg, who met in San Francisco while working at roy’s Hawaiian fusion restaurant. They had the dream of one day opening their own place. After a year of looking for the perfect spot in Northern California, Keith decided to pack up and move back to his hometown of Spokane Valley. It was there, on a trip to visit family, that he stumbled upon the perfect location for their future restaurant. He gave Darrin a call and convinced him to make the move too. And on April 17th, 2017, Craft & Gather was born!

The name "Craft & Gather" was chosen to reflect the restaurant's focus on craft quality yet approachable food, with an emphasis on local craft beer and cocktails. The founders envisioned a welcoming and family friendly space that would serve as a neighborhood gathering spot, complete with a large backyard and patio with a stage for live music. the team at Craft & Gather is dedicated to making sure your experience is nothing short of a good time. samantha mace is a bay area native who developed a love for cooking at an early age. after moving to whidbey island, washington in 2014, she began her professional culinary journey under the guidance of an extraordinary french master chef. during her two-year apprenticeship, samantha developed a deep understanding of the mechanisms behind cooking and gained invaluable experience in the kitchen. today, samantha's passion for food and commitment to constant learning continue to drive her success as a chef. she believes that there is no end to evolving in the culinary industry and is constantly seeking new challenges and opportunities for growth. when she's not in the kitchen, samantha enjoys exploring the great outdoors. whether she's hiking, camping, or spending time on the water with friends and family, she finds inspiration in the natural beauty of the world around her. she's also a dedicated sports fan and loves cheering on her favorite baseball and football teams. stop by the kitchen on your next visit and say hello.
